Drama Therapy: What it is, What it Looks Like, and How it Might Relate to Your Practice

June 11 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

NPI June CE Meeting

Presented by Sarah Rodgers, LMFT, RDT

Program Description:
Participants will learn what Drama Therapy is and what a Registered Drama Therapist is, will learn about the scope of the field and varied examples of practice, including through an anti-oppression lens, and will develop an understanding of basic clinical principles of the field that can inspire or integrate with your own practice approach. This presentation will include experiential opportunities and offer a few local examples of this work. Warning: playfulness will be encouraged.

Presenter Bio:
Sarah is a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (#1179) in the state of Tennessee and holds a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Drama Therapy from California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. She is a Registered Drama Therapist with the North American Drama Therapy Association and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. Sarah has special training in EMDR, Brainspotting (Phase 1), Somatic Experiencing (Intermediate level), and drama therapy and expressive arts, in addition to drawing from attachment and psychodynamic concepts, CBT, behavioral, and other therapies.

Sarah has a background as an actor and theater educator. It was her passion for the cathartic power of self-expression that led her to psychology and to studying the application of creative forms for therapeutic means. We could all use a little more fun and playfulness in our lives, and healing is only enhanced by creative thinking and a touch of humor.

Sarah has owned and operated her private practice, Creative Counseling Nashville, PLLC, since 2016. Sarah especially enjoys working with people struggling to own their full selves, women who are highly achieving but feeling empty, anxious, or stuck, people who are ready to delve into their mind-body-spirit more deeply in their healing, and people struggling with the complex, relational trauma of a narcissistic or otherwise emotionally immature parent.

She is a highly competent goofball who is excited to share more about Drama Therapy with you!
